Ronda 2018 hails from the same single vineyard as prior vintage - a site that is carefully farmed and perfectly suited to growing optimum quality Nero D’Avola.

We feel that Nero D’Avola is a ‘rising star’ grape variety that has a wonderful future ahead in warm climate McLaren Vale. Our wine is affectionately known as Ronda in the winery, simply because our barrels were chalk-marked RO (Rouleur), NDA (Nero D’Avola)..

This year we picked Ronda nearly a baume lower than prior year. The vintage, vineyard and fruit condition guided our pick decision, but so too did our desire to craft early drinking, juicy and delicious wine.

On winery arrival, our fruit was handsorted and 30% (plus) whole bunches were tipped into a small open fermenter, with the remaining fruit gently destemmed on top. Ronda ticked through ferment naturally and spent limited time on skins (pre and post) before being footstomped, lightly pressed to tank for settling, then run to old barriques to complete MLF and maturation. After 7 months in oak Ronda was bottled without fining or filtration.

Once again, a hands-off approach was adopted with minimal additions or attention needed. This wine tends to make itself which it’s just the way we like it.

Ronda’s pure-fruited style sits neatly above the vineyards umami-like savoury character. There’s plenty of intense cranberry, cola and Mediterranean all-spice. Whilst this wine is lighter, finer edged than prior vintage, Ronda 2018 doesn’t lack in flavour - the palate is intense and jubey, with tingling acid and a fine dusting of tannin.
